Six high-tech cities to come up in Karnataka

In his opening remarks at the 25th Bengaluru Tech Summit, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that Karnataka would construct six new “high-tech” cities and a specific “startup park.” The six “high-tech” cities will be constructed close to the regions of Hubballi-Dharwad, Kalaburgi, Mysuru, Mangaluru, and Bengaluru.

The announcement comes as the state works to power its tech-driven future while persuading investors to look beyond Bengaluru, also known as “India’s Silicon Valley.” At the recently concluded Global Investors’ Meet, where 90% of investments were directed toward areas outside of Bengaluru.

“The city near Bengaluru will be very close to the airport and will be well-planned and will have the best universities and R&D centres,” Bommai said, adding that the detailed plan for the new cities will be disclosed in six months.

In his remarks, CM Bommai emphasised the need for technological innovation that is sustainable.

The Tech Summit was inaugurated by PM Modi virtually.
