Sunil Gavaskar Criticizes, Says India Would Win Gold for Making Excuses

New Delhi: Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has sharply criticized Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen following his loss in the Bronze Medal match at the Paris Olympics. Gavaskar’s comments align with those of former badminton star Prakash Padukone, who previously voiced concern about the mindset of Indian athletes under pressure.

Padukone emphasized that while federations and the government provide ample support, the ultimate responsibility to perform lies with the athletes. Echoing this sentiment, Gavaskar remarked that “making excuses is where our country would win gold medals every time.” He attributed Sen’s defeat to a lack of mental toughness at a critical moment.

Gavaskar also stressed the importance of mental training, stating that focus and concentration are crucial qualities athletes must cultivate themselves. He noted that while mind trainers can offer assistance, the inner resolve to succeed must come from the athletes.
