Sushil Kumar Shinde announces retirement

Former Union Home Minister and senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde has made an important announcement and said that he will withdraw from electoral politics before the 2024 general elections.

Sushil Kumar Shinde, who entered the political arena in the early 70s, is now 83 years old. Sushil Kumar Shinde’s daughter Praniti Shinde will contest from Solapur Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

42-year-old Pranithi Shinde has served as an MLA from Solapur Nagar assembly constituency for three consecutive terms. After Sushil Kumar Shinde, daughter Praniti Shinde is preparing for the Lok Sabha elections with the intention of entering national politics.

After the 2014 elections, Shinde had expressed his intention to leave the constituency to his daughter. He had announced that this would be his final competition. Despite the electoral setback, he continued his political journey. He contested from Solapur constituency in 2014 and 2019.

Shinde has been elected three times MP from Solapur Lok Sabha constituency. He contested the Vice President election in 2002. He was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from January 2003 to November 2004. Later he was appointed as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.

In the Manmohan Singh government, he was appointed Minister of State for Power and Home Minister in 2012.
