TDP promises Anna Canteen, clean water in manifesto for ULB polls

Vijayawada: Telugu Desam party in its Urban Local Body election manifesto assured to reopen Anna Canteens to provide food to the poor workers at just Rs.5, cut old taxes by 50 percent and provide clean towns and clean drinking water.
TDP National General Secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh released the manifesto at the party’s Central office here on Friday and listed out the main features.
The manifesto contained 10 promises beginning with the TDP commitment to reopening Anna Canteens to provide food to the poor workers at just Rs.5 in all towns and cities.
The manifesto also asserted that their party would cut old taxes by 50 percent in order to provide a relief to the people from the rising burdens in the wake of price rise.
The other promises included clean towns and clean drinking water.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion, Mr.Lokesh said that they had framed their manifesto after conducting a three-month long survey to understand the expectations of the urban people.
He regretted that under the TDP regime, three to four cities of the state used to figure in the top 10 list at the National level in getting awards but now, there was no cleanliness even in Visakhapatnam with garbage lifting also not being taken up properly. The scene was no different in Vijayawada where even the Airport road was having potholes with no repairs being taken up.
The TDP National General Secretary recalled how water contamination caused a major health crisis in Eluru, which is the hometown of the Health Minister himself.
Nobody was there to clean carcasses of cats and dogs from the drains there. The TDP manifesto had other promises like job melas for the unemployed youth, beautification, pothole-less roads, permanent auto stands with toilets and drinking water, MEPMA meeting halls, TIDCO houses, salary hike for sanitation staff and free water connections.
The elections for the Municipal Corporations and Municipalities will be held in Andhra Pradesh on March 10 and the counting will be taken up on March 14.
