Tennis star Martina Navratilova calls Home Minister Amit Shah’s praise for Modi a joke

Tennis star Martina Navratilova who scorns the Indian Right-wing Bhartiya Janata Party with her occasional tweets, has this time again hit where it hurts the most.

Navratilova tweeted on Sunday night, “And for my next joke…” adding an emoticon for astonishment and another that resembles a clown. She shared news report of Hindustan Times that said, “Union home minister Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not a “dictator” but the most democratic leader the country has ever seen.”

Amit Shah’s comments were extracted from Prime Narendra Modi’s interview with Sansad on the occasion of him completing public office of 20 years last week.

While several Twitter users supported her, other supporters of the right-wing referred to backlash that was triggered when singer Rihanna tweeted on the farmer’s protest.

Navratilova has been keeping up with her Twitter bio motto, that says, “Time to speak out now” unfailingly. In 2016, she had incited Indian trolls when she shared an article on the crackdown on JNU students on Twitter.

In 2019, the Tennis star had scoffed at the bond between PM Modi and then United States President Donald Trump.
