‘There must be some humanity left’: Dr Kafeel Khan as UP police goes to his home where only his 70-year-old mother resides to warn her

Paediatrian and activist Kafeel Khan asked the authorities what they wanted to prove by sending Uttar Pradesh police to his home where only his 70-year-old mother resides.

In a facebook post, he wrote, “I am in Kerala to take my book to the people, away from Uttar Pradesh elections, busy in the treatment of children, but can’t stand it. What do you want to prove by intimidating my 70-year-old mother by sending the police? Want to arrest want to kill? Do whatever you want to do, but have mercy on my mother, she cannot tolerate it now. There must be some humanity left, sir.

While Dr Kafeel khan is in Kerala, promoting his new book ‘The Gorakhpur Hospital Tragedy: A Doctor’s Memoir of a Deadly Medical Crisis, the UP Police reached his home where only his 70-year-old mother resides, questioned and warned her of consequences of him speaking out.

His brother, Adeel khan said the police reached their house in Gorakhpur and informed the people in the house (mother and wife) to ensure that Dr Khan presents himself at the local police station. “Kafeel Khan & his fam do not live in Gorakhpur now,” a journalist tweeted.

The Gorakhpur police said they went to his home to verify all history-sheeters. They said in a tweet, “At present, the history sheet of Dr. Kafeel Khan is prevalent at the police station Rajghat. In view of the upcoming elections, in order to verify all the history-sheeters, the Rajghat police station had gone to his house, where his family members told him that he had gone out of work.”

Dr Kafeel Khan had hit the headlines after he alleged that oxygen shortage led to the deaths of several children at the Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College in 2017. He was also arrested for an address to students of the Aligarh Muslim University on January 29, 2020.
