A court in Varanasi will issue its ruling today after requesting on October 7 that the administration of the Gyanvapi mosque submit a response to a petitioners’ request for carbon-dating of a structure inside the compound that is allegedly a “Shivling.”
The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee has been requested to submit its response, and the court has set the hearing date for the subject as October 11.
The famous Kashi Vishwanath temple lies close to the Gyanvapi mosque, and the Varanasi court case has rekindled accusations that the mosque was built on a section of the Hindu structure that the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb had destroyed.
