Ahmedabad: Even in the breeze of the Sabarmati river, cricket is now blowing.
The Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Motera, a short distance from the river bank is waiting for fans to come. Cricket fans from many countries of the world are flocking to this stadium, which will be the stage for the opening match of the One Day Cricket World Cup tournament.
Defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand will meet in the first match of the tournament here on Thursday. But the centre of attraction is the match between India and Pakistan to be held here on August 14. For that, the fans resorted to booking match tickets for travel and hotels for accommodation months before.
As Navratri also begins at the time of this match, the prices of hotel and airline tickets have skyrocketed. However, the enthusiasm of cricket lovers is not dampened.
In 2020, the World Cup matches will be held here for the first time after being rebuilt as a huge stadium. It is also the hometown of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jai Shah and has attracted much attention.
India is hosting the World Cup tournament for the fourth time. This is the first time that only BCCI is responsible for the project.
