You are going to South Africa…’: Nehra explains the reason, why India should have chosen Bhuvneshwar Kumar for white-ball leg

The BCCI had announced Team India’s squad on Thursday, for the upcoming tour of South Africa that consists of three ODIs, as many T20Is, and two Tests.
The World Cup finalists team captain, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will skip their white-ball leg. Although the captaincy will be retained by Suryakumar Yadav in the T20Is. Meanwhile KL Rahul will lead the side in the fifty-over format. The team will also witness Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal in both the ODI.

Apart from them, there were no major comebacks in the team but former India pacer Ashish Nehra believes that the team should have included one player for the tour and it should have been Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is an integral part of the Indian white-ball setup until last year. But he lost his place in the team because of some episodes of inconsistent performances, Adding to performances, there was an emergence of pacers like Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna and Avesh Khan in the Indian squad. As Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are the first-choice pacers for the team, there was no place for Bhuvneshwar. But it is Nehra’s instincts which believes the right-arm pacer would have been proved himself to be beneficial in South Africa with the new ball.

“Only one name comes to my mind, because you are going to South Africa, and you have picked a lot of fast bowlers, and that name is Bhuvneshwar Kumar. I understand that you have other new-ball options, you have Arshdeep Singh, and Mukesh Kumar is playing,” Ashish Nehra told to JioCinema. “When you talk about the white-ball, Bhuvi can fit in any team, especially when he is bowling well because he does not lack at all in terms of skill and experience. It’s a different thing that he didn’t play against Australia here, but he should be kept in the scheme of things,” he added.
