Parliament Winter Session: Bill Seeks Ban on Private Cryptocurrencies

The Centre on Tuesday has listed 26 bills for the upcoming winter session of parliament, along with the repeal of three farm laws and another to ban a few private cryptocurrencies while allowing an official digital currency by the RBI.

Whilst allowing an official digital currency by the Reserve Bank of India, the Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill seeks to ban all but a few private cryptocurrencies to promote underlying technologies.

All crypto prices crashed by 15% and more, hours after the union government’s announcement, NDTV reported.

Repeal of three Farm laws

Three farm bills have also been listed to replace three ordinances, according to the Centre’s legislative business list for the winter session.

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced to repeal the farm laws, against which farmers have been protesting along the Delhi borders for a year.

The Farm Laws Repeal Bill, which proposes to abrogate the three contentious farm laws passed by the parliament in 2020 has also been listed in the legislative business.

Parliament’s winter session is scheduled to start on November 29 and end on December 23, this year.
