Assam government approves rehabilitation package of Rs:160-crore for surrendered NDFB cadre

The Assam government has approved a programme to rehabilitate 4,036 surrendered National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) cadre out of 160 crore funds.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma here on Monday to review the status of implementation of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) agreement.

The rehabilitation program for former NDFB cadres will be conceptualised and BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) has teamed up with State Institute for Panchayat and Rural Development in collaboration with Special franch Inspector General of Assam Police, Hiren Nath, will be formed together.

Under the programme, 4036 NDFB cadres who have surrendered in various parts of the BTR will be trained in skills development for social and economic development.

The meeting was held in the presence of Gwra Brahma, a member of the simple tribes and backward classes (BTC only), the chief executive member of the BTC, Pramod Boro and several executive members of the state welfare.

It was also decided to expedite the means of empowering the Council to enable the implementation of the BTR Agreement signed on 27 January 2020,to starting a renewed peace. In addition, the meeting also discussed aspects of the identity, culture, language and education of the Bodo people.

Advocating the need to promote the rhetoric of social empowerment around the philosophy of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, the Chief Minister also directed the authorities to build in the name of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma among other developments complete the construction of the outgoing cultural complex cum center as soon as possible, works that are intimately related to the pride and dignity of the Bodo people.

The meeting also decided that the welfare of the simple tribes and backward classes (for the BTC) would be restructured and renamed the BTC Affairs Department, which would look after the welfare of the Bodo people.
