Himanta Sarma takes a dig at Rahul Gandhi on day of Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam lashed out at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday, who is currently in the north-eastern state as part of the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, calling him a ‘Ravan’.

He said the following as a result of providing a to one of the remarks passed by Rahul Gandhi. Sarma was quoted by ANI as saying, “Why are you talking about Ravan today? Atleast talk about Ram today. We have the opportunity to talk about Ram after 500 years. We should only talk about him and not about Ravan.”

Actually Sarma was referring to the ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony which was held at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22, which was led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There was also high drama witnessed on Monday because as Gandhi was stopped from visiting the Sri Sri Sankardeva Satra located in Nagaon district. He was also barred from holding a meeting in the district of Morigaon.

In the protest, Gandhi asked whether PM will now be “deciding on who will visit a temple and when”. “Will PM Modi now decide who will visit a temple and when?… We do not want to create any problems and simply pray at the temple,” Gandhi was quoted by PTI as he was talking to the police authorities.
