Bengaluru breaches 1 crore-mark in administering Covid-19 vaccine doses: Civic body chief

More than one crore doses of the coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered in Karnataka’s Bengaluru as of Sunday, according to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta.

He announced on twitter, ‘As of today, BBMP has administered a total of 1,00,37,956 doses in Bengaluru. Over 1 crore doses only means that we will continue to vaccinate every eligible adult! We believe Covid-19 can be completely kept at bay when all of us are fully vaccinated. Towards a stronger Bengaluru! (sic)’

Futher congratulating all the BBMP officers, health officials, staff, and frontline warriors who have been endlessly working to provide vaccine for all the people, the Commissioner added that they will continue to work together and fight the Covid19 virus.

Taking it to social media, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar also congratulated all the health workers and officials involved in the drive.

According to Co-WIN data, it includes 71,88,222 first dose vaccinations and 29,00,836 second dose vaccinations under the BBMP.

Therefore, a sum of 82.7 lakh people have been jabbed with the first dose, while over 32 lakh people have taken both the doses in Bengaluru Urban district.

On Sunday, Karnataka reported 1,117 fresh Covid-19 cases making the tally to 29,55,164 cases. The state government has also administered 4.5 crore doses by Sunday evening since the vaccination drive began. Over 3.3 crore people have been administered with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and 1.1 crore people with both doses.

As per a health bulletin released by the Karnataka health department, Bengaluru now stands in the second position after New Delhi (1,41,02,635) in terms of vaccinantion in the India among the metropolitan cities. While Mumbai stands 3rd (1,02,67,836), Kolkata is 4th (60,11,947) and Chennai (52,24,615) stands in 5th position.
