Centre appoints new governors for 8 states

Ahead of cabinet reshuffle, the centre on Tuesday has appointed new governors for eight states, including Karnataka and Haryana among others. While President Ram Nath Kovind made several appointments and changes, the appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices. Union minister and BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Thawarchand Gehlot has been appointed as the Governor of Karnataka.

These appointments and changes are made amid buzz that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to shuffle his cabinet.

Here is a list of new governors appointed in the eight states:

  1. Mizoram Governor, PS Sreedharan Pillai has been transferred and appointed as Governor of Goa.
  2. Haryana Governor, Satyadev Narayan Arya, has been transferred and appointed as Governor of Tripura.
  3. Union minister Thawarchand Gehlot has been appointed as the Governor of Karnataka.
  4. Governor of Tripura, Ramesh Bais has retransferred and appointed as Governor of Jharkhand.
  5. Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatraya, has been transferred and appointed as Governor of Haryana.
  6. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar is now the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
  7. Hari Babu Kambhampati has been appointed as the new Governor of Mizoram.
  8. Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel has been appointed as the new Governor of Madhya Pradesh.
