Centre Bans Telecast of Malayalam News Channel MediaOne TV

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting suspended the telecast of Malayalam news channel MediaOne over security concerns on Monday. MediaOne’s editor Pramod Raman uploaded a video and shared the news on its social media handle.

According to reports, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, citing “security reasons” suspended the channel. Media One went off the air on Monday at noon.

In the video, Raman said the MIB has imposed a broadcasting ban on the channel in Malayalam. “The ministry has said the ban was due to security reasons, but the channel is yet to get the details on it. Union Government is yet to disclose the details about the ban. We have started legal action against the ban. After completing the process, the channel would be back to the audience. We are suspending the broadcasting temporarily with the hope that justice will prevail at last,” he added.

This is reportedly the second bar on MediaOne. In 2020, the Centre had imposed a bar on MediaOne TV along with another Malayalam news channel Asianet for 48 hours for their coverage of Delhi pogrom. The MIB had said it violated provisions of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1998.
