Gurugram Namaz Row: Right wing groups disrupt Namaz prayers, Muslims asked to chant ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ slogans

Ruckus has been going on for a long time in Haryana’s Gurugram district over offering Namaz in the open. Right wing groups have disrupted Friday prayers today at a park in Udyog Vihar area.

Members of Hinduvta organization and Muslims who wanted to offer Namaz came face to face and there was a commotion for a long time, News 18 reported.

During this, the right wing groups coerced the Muslim community to chant “Bharat Mata ki Jai.” Eventually the Muslims said “Bharat Mata ki Jai”, but we’re not allowed to offer namaz as per reports.

These disruptions come amid several weeks of protests at the site against Friday prayers being offered in open spaces of Gurugram.

Last week, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced that the namaz of Muslims on Friday should not be offered in the open and the practice “will not be tolerated.”

He also announced that an earlier decision on where some spots had been reserved for the purpose of Muslims’ offering prayer had now been withdrawn.

A former Rajya Sabha MP Mohammed Adeeb moved to Supreme Court on Thursday, seeking action against the Haryana DGP and the Chief Secretary over the “namaz” row for failing to comply with earlier directions regarding measures to curb communal and violent sentiments that result in hate crimes.

His petition seeks action against Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal, DGP PK Agrawal and others.

Talking to PTI, Adeeb said, “The communal fabric of the state has been torn apart and despite being mandated by court numerous times, they have allowed it to happen.”

Since September 2021, Namaz is being disrupted in the open sites by the members of Hindu right wing groups. Similar protests have been continuing at several other sites, despite these spots being designated by the state government for this purpose.
