“Is forming WhatsApp group of Muslim students a crime?” Umar Umar Khalid’s lawyer asked the court

Activist Umar Khalid’s lawyer asked Delhi court Will forming a WhatsApp group of Muslim students make anybody terrorist?
Senior Lawyer Trideep Pais asked this to court during a hearing of Umar Khalisd’s bail plea in a UAPA case related to Delhi pogrom of February 2020.
In 200 pages chargesheet, police alleges that a WhatsApp group was formed after Umar mentored a group of students called “Muslim Students of JNU” with the help of Sharjeel Imam in order to spread violence.
Lawyer argued that the 200 pages chargesheet filed by the police is an imaginative story of Delhi Police. He further added that Police chargesheet is a script to paint all the accused with a same brush. “All I’m saying is your wish to paint every accused in FIR 59 with same brush crumbles when you look at chargesheet. Do you have the sense of consistency in chargesheet? No. Did you get statements of witnesses from that group? Where do you get it from? You get it from your mind. Half of it is fertile imagination of IO and stript writers of this chargesheet.”
The matter will now be heard on November 2 and 8, according to Live Law.
