Don’t test the patience of Kashmiris See what is happening in Afghanistan: Mehbooba Mufti

Stating that even a superpower like America had to ultimately pack it’s bags and leave Afghanistan, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on said that the Centre should not test the patience of the people of Jammu and Kashmir any longer and hold talks soon.

“It needs courage to endure what people of J&K are enduring. The day they run out of patience, you would be doomed. Don’t test our patience. See what is happening in our neighbourhood. US, a great super power, had to pack its bags & withdraw from there,” Mehbooba Mufti said.

“Now is the time to remember what Vajpayee ji had started and resume the talks. Things have been looted from J&K using so called legal means, and the erstwhile state has been broken up into pieces. Now is the time to make amends before it’s too late.”

Mufti’s statement comes a day after a meeting held on Friday, where opposition leaders of 19 parties met virtually as part of efforts to build unity ahead of the 2024 national polls. They demanded the release of all political prisoners in J&K restoration of its full statehood including Jammu and Kashmir cadre of central services and the conduct of free and fair assembly elections at the earliest. The meeting was attended by leaders of J&K region Mufti and National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah.

Meanwhile, People’s Conference said the silence of opposition parties on special status of J&K Article 370, which was abrogated by the Central government in 2019, is equivalent to an endorsement of the revocation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
