Jharkhand: Mentally-challenged patient raped by an ambulance driver at ‘SNMMCH’ govt hospital in Dhanbad

In the latest case in the series of shocking and shameful rape incidents in the country, on Saturday night, an ambulance driver at the Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanabad, Jharkhand, was allegedly rape a woman, who is mentally challenged.

The owner of a tea stall allegedly assisted the ambulance driver in committing the crime.

Survivors are reportedly not only mentally challenged, but also speech impaired.

On June 26, some people admitted her to the women’s medical ward of a government medical facility.

Because she is dumb and has psychological problems, the hospital has not been able to identify her.

At around 11pm on Sunday, the ambulance driver, identified as Sanjay Das, and the owner of the tea stall, Kishun, entered the hospital’s women’s medicine ward.

The two lured the mentally handicapped and dumb woman to a separate area on the hospital grounds, where the ambulance driver allegedly raped her.

Some members of the hospital staff found out and rushed to the spot to rescue the woman.

However, the ambulance driver managed to escape. The owner of the tea shop was arrested.

AK Choudhary, superintendent of SNMMCH, told the Times of India: “I got information from the ward boy around 11:15 pm about the incident after which I directed the officials concerned to inform the police and hand over the tea stall owner to the police.”

The SNMMCH administration has formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident.

Choudhary added, “We have constituted an internal committee just to ascertain how the duo managed to enter the female ward and why the nurses and ward boy could not to stop them. We have informed the police to take up the legal action.”

ASP (Law and Order) Manoj Sawargiyar said; The ambulance driver is currently fugitive. Police are Investigat the tea shop owner.

The incident has put a question mark over the safety of female patients at the government-run healthcare centre.
