Punishment announced for 10 criminals who beat Tabrez Ansari to death

Jharkhand: The Seraikela court of Jharkhand has sentenced all 10 convicts in the Tabrez Ansari thrashing case to 10 years in jail.

On June 27, Additional Sessions Judge Amit Shekhar pronounced 10 of the 13 accused guilty.

According to the lawyer representing Tabrez Ansari’s wife, the court imposed a fine of Rs 23,100 on each of the convicts, failing which they would have to undergo an additional jail term of 6 months.

Advocate Altaf Hussain, who appeared for Tabrez Ansari’s wife Shahista Parveen, said he was not satisfied with the sentence. He said that he will petition the High Court to convert this sentence into life imprisonment.

24-year-old Ansari was killed on June 18, 2019 at DhatKidih under Seraikela police station, tied to a pole and beaten with rods while shouting Jai Shri Ram on the charge of stealing a motorcycle.
