Bjorn Borg, the Swedish tennis player, politely declined an award for himself on Tuesday when the event fell an hour and a half behind schedule due to Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai’s late arrival at the event.
Both Borg and former Indian player Vijay Amritraj were scheduled to receive awards at the ceremony. The Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) organised the event, according to the Deccan Herald.
The event was supposed to start at 9:30 am, but it was moved to 10:15 am since CM Bommai was running late. Borg chose to decline the felicitation since he needed to be at his son’s game at 11 a.m. According to the report, CM Bommai, who arrived at the event at 11:15am, briefly watched the game before leaving.
