Festivals celebrated at peace around North Karnataka – Eid and Basava Jayanthi

Amid the ongoing communal disharmony, Hindu and Muslims of Karnataka’s Bidar celebrated Eid Ul Fitr and Basava Jayanthi together with peace and harmony. They distributed sweets, water bottles among each other and also shared warm hugs of brotherhood.

“Ramadan is the month, when we give importance to human rights. Along with giving charity, we also spread happiness. Basaveshwara made great contribution to social reform and human rights. His teachings were to promote brotherhood, end discrimination and end the plight of poor people. Today in our society, the importance of these teachings has increased more. Therefore, if you want to understand them, you should implement it and spread to others,” said Dr Abdul Qadir, who is the founder of Shaheen Group of Institutions.

This year, Eid and Basava Jayanti, both fell on the same day with several people across the state celebrating the festivals together, including in North Karnataka region.

In another attempt to counter hate, members of the Muslim and the Hindu community in Hubballi celebrated the festivals as “Harmony Day”.
