Girls who challenged hijab ban in SC are ‘members of terror body’: Udupi BJP leader Yashpal Suvarna

Senior BJP leader and Vice-President of Udupi Government Pre-University College Development Committee Yashpal Suvarna on Wednesday has claimed that the girls who had approached the Karnataka High Court against hijab ban were “anti-national” and “members of a terrorist organization.”

Suvarna, the national general secretary of the BJP OBC Morcha, told reporters, “The girls have proved once again that they are not students but members of a terrorist organization. By giving statements against the High Court verdict they are disregarding the learned judges. Their statement amounts to contempt of court.”

The high court on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by the girls, saying hijab is not an essential religious practice of Islam, and upheld the ban on wearing headscarves in educational institutions.

“What should we expect from them for the country when these students call the verdict given by learned judges as politically motivated and against the law? They have only proved that they are anti-nationals,” he said.

While the Muslim students have challenged the Karnataka high court’s order before the Supreme Court, Suvarna was confident that the Top Court will deliver a verdict that will be “good for the entire country.”

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Wednesday had refused to hear the petitions challenging the High Court Judgment on hijab, saying it will look into it after Holi vacations, not urgently.
