Amid the ongoing hijab row and the college opening after almost a week in Karnataka, female students wearing hijab were not allowed to enter a college in Vijayapura on Wednesday.
When the girls reached their college, the authorities, citing the High Court’s order asked them to remove their headscarf if wanted to enter. However, the students were adamant.
On Wednesday, Pre-university and degree colleges in the state reopened that were shut due to controversy over hijab. After Karnataka High Court’s order order last week, the state government decided to resume classes. The court in its order had restrained students from wearing religious attires within the classroom.
Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed in several districts due to ongoing unrest, including Bagalkot, Bangalore, Chikkaballapura, Gadag, Shimoga, Tumkur, Mysore, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada.
