Hijab Row: Protests banned near educational institutions in Bengaluru for 2 weeks

While the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday referred the hearing petitions challenging the hijab ban to a larger bench, the Bengaluru city police have banned protests, demonstrations and gathering within the area of a 200-meter radius of educational institutions in the district for two weeks.

Following the protests in a few places of the state, Bengaluru Commissioner of Police Kamal Pant issued a prohibitory order banning the gathering, protests and demonstrations within the area of 200-meter radius from the gate of schools, PU colleges, degree colleges or similar educational institutions in Bengaluru with immediate effect till February 22, 2022.

Hearing the petitions on the issue Tuesday, the high court appealed to the students and people to maintain peace and tranquillity in the state.

On Tuesday, the Karnataka government announced the closure of high schools and colleges for the next three days following tensions over the hijab row in different parts of the state.
