Horse’s funeral attended by hundreds in Karnataka’s Belagvi

While India is reeling under the disastrous second wave of Covid-19 pandemic and many states going under lockdown, social distancing has become an absolute necessity. According to reports, practicing Covid -19 guidelines extensively helps in curbing the spread of this deadly virus. States have imposed strict curbs on social and religious gatherings, with limited people allowed to attend the funeral.

Amid such a health emergency, it appears that the gathering of people can’t be stopped as another incident from Belagavi district in Karnataka has sent covid-19 guidelines for a sling.

Hundreds of people were assembling for the funeral of a horse that belonged to a local religious organization in the Maradimath area. ANI’s visuals reports show many people walking shoulder-to-shoulder without any social distancing or even face masks.

Considering the issue, Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the district administration will look into the matter, and appropriate action will be taken.

Belgavi’s Superintendent of Police, Laxman Nimbargi, speaking to NDTV, described the horse from the Mastmaradi village died on Sunday morning. The villagers took out a massive procession to cremate it. Authorities have now sealed the town for the next 14 days conducting RT-PCR tests on a large scale.

The incident came when Karnataka reported the highest single-day death toll at 626 on Sunday, even though positive cases are coming down in the state. Currently, the state is under a lockdown that will be in force till June 7.
