Minister Kharge Introduces WhatsApp Chat Service for Citizens to Access Gram Panchayat Facilities

In a pioneering initiative in India, rural communities in Karnataka are gaining access to an innovative online chat service via WhatsApp. This service enables citizens to acquire information about the structure and diverse offerings of all gram panchayats across the state. Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge inaugurated the program at his office in the Vidhana Soudha on Friday.

Kharge elaborated, “Through this new online service, citizens can address 78 different issues such as water scarcity, road and bridge quality, and the implementation of schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and Panchayat Raj. Additionally, they can monitor how government departments handle these matters.”

This marks the first instance of such an online chat service being extended to gram panchayat regions in India. Citizens can avail themselves of this service by contacting the mobile phone number 8277506000. They can utilize this platform to submit application forms for various services, track their submissions, and lodge complaints concerning their concerns, according to officials from the Panchayat Raj Department.
