Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar: 1.2 Crore People Lifted Out of Poverty Through Guarantee Schemes

Udupi: Minister of Women and Child Development and Udupi District In-charge, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, highlighted the transformative impact of the government’s guarantee schemes during her speech at the 78th Independence Day celebrations at Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium in Ajjarakad, Udupi.

Hebbalkar announced that over 1.2 crore people have risen above the poverty line, thanks to the successful implementation of these schemes.

The Minister noted that, unlike previous budgets where only 4 to 5 percent of grants were allocated to the poor, this year’s budget has earmarked a significant 15 percent specifically for poverty alleviation. This increased allocation aims to further improve the lives of the underprivileged, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of its citizens.

Hebbalkar also praised the contributions of local fishermen to India’s position as the third-largest fish producer in the world. She revealed that the survey work for upgrading Malpe’s all-season fishing port has begun, marking the initial phase of a major infrastructure improvement.

In addition, the Minister emphasized the government’s efforts to maintain law and order in the Udupi district. She stated that proactive measures, including regular meetings and preventive notices, have led to a reduction in criminal cases. Hebbalkar reiterated the government’s dedication to fostering a favorable environment for tourism, a key employment generator in the coastal region.
