Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejected the state government’s proposal to establish a GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec) in Karnataka.
During the inauguration of the Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Innovation (KWIN) City in Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar shared that both he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had requested a GIFT City during a visit to Delhi, but PM Modi refused, insisting the existing GIFT City in Gujarat would remain the sole financial hub.
Shivakumar, also the Bengaluru Development Minister, emphasized that KWIN City will be a sustainable and purposeful development, focused on improving the quality of life for its residents.
Located between Dobbaspete and Doddaballapura, the 5,800-acre project will foster growth in healthcare, biotechnology, AI, and advanced manufacturing, with plans to house 500,000 residents and feature cutting-edge water and energy solutions.
