There is intolerance in Hindu religion, that’s why I converted to Buddhism’: Karnataka BJP MLA

Karnataka BJP MLA N Mahesh said that he converted to Buddhism as there is intolerance in Hindu religion.

Despite protests by the opposition, the Anti Conversion Bill or the Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021 was passed in the State Assembly on Thursday. The Bhartiya Janata Party has asserted that forcible conversion is a criminal offense.

Mahesh said there is intolerance in Hindu religion and that is why he had converted to Buddhism. He added that his wife and son were converted to Buddhism 14 years ago.

Speaking to TV5 in Belagavi, he said, “I was impatient and it was the cause of my self-esteem. But I do not belong to any foreign religions, I belong to Buddhism, which is of our own country. I always have my support with the BJP.”
