25 crore bribe demand from Actor Shah Rukh Khan: ED files case against Sameer Wankhede

Another case has been registered against officer Sameer Wankhede, who is accused of demanding a Rs.25 crore bribe to protect the son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who was caught in the Mumbai Cruise drugs case.

It was previously alleged that Officer Sameer Wankhede demanded a bribe of ₹25 crore from the family of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan to protect his son in a drug case.

In connection with the FIR registered by the CBI on this allegation, the Enforcement Directorate has registered a case of money laundering against the former Zonal Director of Mumbai NCB, Sameer Wankhede.

A case has been registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Some former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials have also reportedly been served notices.

Wankhede, a 2008-batch Indian Revenue Service officer of the Customs and Indirect Tax cadre has moved the Bombay High Court seeking protection from any coercive action by the ED.

Officials said a case was registered by the CBI in May last year against Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in May last year for allegedly demanding a Rs. 25 crore bribe not to arrest him in the drugs-on-cruise case. On October 2, 2021, Aryan Khan was arrested in connection with the drug bust on the Cordelia cruise ship.

The Central Bureau of Investigation registered charges of criminal conspiracy (120-B IPC), and extortion (388 IPC) against Wankhede and others under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act on a complaint from the NCB. A year later, the NCB filed a charge sheet against 14 accused in the drugs-on-cruise case. But Aryan Khan got a clean chit.

The highly publicized case took a turn in 2021 when an independent witness said that the NCB officer and other persons including Sakshi Gosavi had demanded Rs. 25 crore to hand over Aryan Khan.
