Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut arrested, to be presented in court today

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut was detained last night over Mumbai Chawl case. He was taken into custody earlier after a daylong raid of his home. After he ignored the summons twice, Enforcement Directorate agents searched his residence. Today, the investigation agency will present him in court and ask for his custody.

Shiv Sena party members have demonstrated against Sanjay Raut’s midnight arrest in different locations in Mumbai. Parliamentary procedures were also hampered by the matter as opposition lawmakers accused the centre of misusing agencies.

Rajya Sabha member Mr. Raut is a significant figure in Team Thackeray, which is engaged in a bitter conflict with the Sena faction headed by Eknath Shinde. The uprising that toppled the Sena, Congress, and NCP coalition government under Uddhav Thackeray was spearheaded by Mr. Shinde, who is currently the chief minister of Maharashtra.
