Post about Manipur violence: Priest commits suicide after case gets registered

A case has been registered against a Catholic priest who posted on social media about the violence in Manipur, after which the priest was found in a suicidal state.

Father Anil Francis (40) was found in a suicidal state. He was a member of Syro Malabar Church. He was the manager of St. Alphonsa Academy, Garhakota, Sagar district.

Father Anil Francis was found hanging from a tree near the graveyard, a police officer said.

Last Wednesday, Francis went to the Bishop’s House in Sagar to attend a prayer meeting. But after that he disappeared. In the suicide note, Francis stated that he wanted his body cremated rather than buried.

Father Sabu Puthenpurkal spoke about this and said that Francis’ suicide was not only becasue of his social media post, but there could be other reasons as well.

It was also said that Father Anil Francis was under pressure for filing an FIR against him in connection with a post he shared on social media about the Manipur violence.
