Muslims who are in India are not Indians by chance, but by choice: Maulana Mahmood Madani

Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Madani said that Muslims who are in India are not Indians by chance, but by choice.

In an interview with Aaj Tak on Monday, Maulana Madani said, “Muslims who are India are not Indians by chance, but Indians by choice. Majority of Indian Muslims rejected Mohammad Ali Jinnah in 1947.”

Maulana told so, when he was asked why Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav took Jinnah’s name in one of his speeches. He criticised Akhilesh in connection with his remark on Mohammad Ali Jinnah, saying that the Indian Muslim rejected Jinnah’s idea and chose India over Pakistan

In November, the SP Chief, addressing a public meeting in Hardoi had said, “Sardar Patel, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and (Muhammad Ali) Jinnah studied in the same institute and became barristers. They helped (India) get freedom and never backed away from any struggle.”

Maulana also said that Muslims should not vote to defeat any particular party because it is strategically wrong.

“Muslims are a big part of the society in this country. If they decide to defeat any particular party in any case then it is strategically wrong. Because, the one we decide to defeat will not need us and the one we have to make victorious will also not need us.”

“Muslims can vote for the BJP if they want. Even the BJP should not have a problem to approach Muslims,” he said adding that he wants the BJP to act against hate speeches and hate crimes against Muslims.

Speaking about All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Maulana Madani said that he has no problem with people voting for Owaisi as well.
