The Delhi High Court has denied bail to former JNU student leader Umar Khalid, an accused in connection with the 2020 riots in North East Delhi.
Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai rejected Khalid’s bail plea. This is Khalid’s regular bail application and he has filed a bail application for the second time.
Umar Khalid has been in jail since September 2020 under UAPA in connection with the Delhi riots conspiracy case.
Khalid had moved for bail in the trial court after withdrawing his bail application filed in the Supreme Court on February 14, 2024.
Trideep Pais, the lawyer Khalid, said the accused was not involved in any terrorist activities. Not a single document was seized from him. In this context, he requested the court to grant bail.
Later, Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad argued before the court that Khalid had spread his words everywhere as part of the conspiracy. Conducted various types of chats with people on social media. He told the court that the name of the accused appeared in the conspiracy from the beginning.
