Supreme Court drops sedition case against veteran journalist, Vinod Dua

New Delhi: Giving a major relief to veteran journalist Vinod Dua in sedition case, the Apex Court has dropped the case on Thursday.

It may be noted that the case was related to his video where he was reportedly accusing the government of failing to handle Covid pandemic last year.

The judgment was given by two judges, U. U. Lalit and Vineet Saran who ordered the quashing of FIR filed against Dua. The case was filed based on the complaint of BJP leader of Himachal Pradesh, Ajay Shyam.

The Bench referred to one of the orders issued in 1962 that gave protection to journalists from such charges.

The Supreme Court had reserved the order in the case on October 6 2020 on the petition after hearing both sides.

The allegations against Dua were that he was spreading false news with his progamme ‘Vinod Dua Show’ on his YouTube channel.
