Umar Khalid, Khalid Saifi acquitted in 2020 Delhi riots case

In a case involving the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots, a Delhi court on Saturday exonerated former JNU student Umar Khalid and United Against Hate member Khalid Saifi.

Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala issued the ruling in the riot case filed at the Khajuri Khas police station.
Though they have yet to receive bail in a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the two will continue to be held in judicial custody.

Reacting to the news Umar Khalid’s father Dr. SQR Ilyas tweeted this,

And Khalid Saifi’s wife Nargis Khalid Saifi tweeted in Hindi, “Umar Khalid and @KSaifi Khajuri Khans proved innocent in violence case. Means the police has no evidence, only by making a fake case of UAPA, they have kept both of them in jail. Alhumdulillah”
