Tragic Incident in Punjab: 10-Year-Old Girl Dies After Consuming Birthday Cake, Shop Owner Charged

Police reported that a 10-year-old girl passed away from suspected food poisoning after consuming cake on her birthday.

Consequently, authorities registered a case against the cake shop owner. The girl’s mother filed a police complaint indicating that the cake, ordered online on March 24 for the birthday celebration, led to the family, including the girl, experiencing vomiting shortly after consumption.

While the girl succumbed the following morning, other family members recovered. The complaint prompted the police to register a case under Indian Penal Code sections 273 (sale of noxious drink or food) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) against the shop owner. Viscera samples have been sent to a laboratory for investigation.

A health official advised the family to file formal complaints with both the police and health department, prompting food teams to collect cake samples from the house. Civil Surgeon Raminder Kaur has initiated an investigation into the incident.
