Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Pegasus row: Using spyware is an act of “anti-national” and “treason”

Why did PM use anti-national spyware against citizens?

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi launched a severely critical attack on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government over the Pegasus issue, saying that PM inserted a weapon in our phones. He asked the party to clarify if the spyware was used to snoop on Indians.

Demanding a discussion in Parliament on this act of “treason” the Wayanad MP questioned why the opposition was not allowed to hold a discussion on the Pegasus snooping row in Parliament and said that the government is now trying to silence them.

Launching an attack on the Centre, while speaking during a press conference where leaders of several opposition parties were present, Gandhi said, “Our voices are being suppressed in Parliament. We just want to ask one question — Did the Indian government buy Pegasus? yes or no? Did they use it against its own people?”

Attacking PM Modi over the Pegasus issue, Gandhi said using spyware like Pegasus is an “anti-national” activity for him.

“The issue of Pegasus is an issue of nationalism and treason for us because this weapon was used against democracy. For me, it’s not an issue of privacy, but an anti-national activity.”

This snooping weapon used against India is a weapon which should have been used against terrorists, Rahul Gandhi said, adding, but Modi ji and Amit Shah should tell why it was used against democracy and institutions.

“We have been told by the government that no discussion will happen on Pegasus in the House. I want to ask youth of the country, Narendra Modi has put a weapon in your phones…, the weapon was used against me, other leaders and activists, then why his issue is not being discussed in Parliament,” Gandhi claimed during a press meet outside Parliament.

Congress leader responding to the allegations said, “The government said we are obstructing Parliament proceedings…but I want to say that we are doing our duty and want to fulfil our duty.”
