Five Men Arrested For Lynching Dalit Man Over Love Affair in Rajasthan

A mob in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district beat a Dalit man to death over his love affairs on Saturday, as per news reports.

Jagdish was mercilessly beaten by a group of men with sticks which led to his death. The victim had an alleged love affair with the wife of the family of one accused, the police told Clarion India.

A horrifying video of the deadly assault has gone viral on social media showing the victim being gripped by his head and legs, lying on ground, while he is being thrashed by mob with full force. He pleads for mercy but they do not compromise.

Later, the accused threw Jagdish’s body outside his house. Meanwhile, the deceased family have refused to take the body and demanded action against the culprits along with compensation. On Saturday, the SDM of the area Ranjit Kumar convinced the family to take the deceased’s body for cremation, Clarion reported.

An FIR has been registered under several sections of Indian Penal Code including 302 (murder), 365 (abduction), 147 ( rioting), 149 (mob) 120-B (common intention) and sections of SC/AT Act.

The police official said the news portal that investigation is going on, adding, “It names 11 people out of which five people including a juvenile have been arrested.”

Meanwhile, leaders from opposition in Rajasthan, the Bharatiya Janata Party have lashed out at the ruling Congress party saying that attacks against Dalits in the state were rising. The saffron party’s supporters headed by Pilibanga MLA Dharmendra Mochi joined the victim’s family who were on a sit-in outside the hospital in the town.

In a Hindi tweet, Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, “Rahul ji, don’t worry about Lakhimpur where Yogi ji has his governance and not your dear Gehlot ji. Show some courage to speak about the murder of dalit youth in Prempura of Rajasthan so that people get to know how truthful you are?”
