Right-wing groups call for Srirangapatna chalo campaign at Jamia Mosque

Right wing groups in Karnataka have started a Sri Rangapattanam chalo campaign to allow Hindus to offer prayers at Jamia Masjid, dating to the time of Tipu Sultan.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have made calls for the campaign and preparations shall be made to enter the Jamia Masjid by Hanuma Maladharis on June 4, according to reports.

Built around 1782, Jamia Masjid is a heritage site maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Earlier this month, the Hindutva outfit Narendra Modi Vichar Manch had sought Mandya district administration’s permission to allow Hindus to pray inside the mosque. Members of the group claimed that a Hanuman temple once stood inside the mosque, the Indian Express reported.
