Rise in petrol-diesel price is the reason behind Long-inconvenient queues for public transport – Rahul Gandhi

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed the Narendra Modi led government over the rise in petrol and Diesel prices, saying long queues for public transport are not just due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The Congress leader’s remarks came amid reports of long queues outside Delhi Metro stations on Tuesday when the average waiting time for commuters went up to almost an hour at several places.

“Long-inconvenient queues for public transport aren’t just due to Covid restrictions. See the rates of petrol-diesel in your city to find out the real reason,” Mr. Gandhi tweeted.

He used the hashtag “#TaxExtortion” to attack the Centre over high taxes imposed on petrol and diesel.

While the petrol prices on June 29 were hiked by 31 to 35 paise, and Diesel by 26 to 30 paise, the fuel prices across the country were historically high.

Raising concerns about the issue, Congress has been accusing the Modi led government of collecting crores through excise duty and taxes on fuel prices due to which the petrol and Diesel prices are hovering around or have crossed Rs 100 per litre at many places in the country.
