SC directs states, UTs to run community kitchens for migrant workers till pandemic situation continues one nation, one ration card

Supreme Court today ordered that all states must implement the “one nation, one ration card” scheme The “one nation, one ration card” scheme which enables migrant workers to procure ration benefits from any corner or nook of the country. SC has ordered to implement the programme by July 31, 2021. The Supreme Court also passed a series of other directions for the benefit and welfare of migrant workers.
SC ordered to set up community kitchen for the migrant workers in all the states. Community kitchens shall run until the pandemic gets over. Central Government will develop a web portal in consultation with NIC to register unorganized and migrant workers and initiate it by 30 July 2021 Centre is directed to allocate and distribute food grains as per demands of state for migrant workers.
States are obliged to introduce a scheme to provide dry ration to migrant workers by July 31, 2021. Such scheme shall be active till the end of the pandemic. States who have not implemented one nation one ration scheme should implement the same before the specified date. SC directed the states to register all establishment and contractors under the Inter-state Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service Act) 1979.
A bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah passed the order in the suo moto case ‘In Re Problems and Miseries of Migrant Labourers’. The suo moto case, which was taken by the Supreme Court in May 2020 to deal with the problems of migrant workers during the national lockdown, is considered by SC this May.
