Chennai | BJP workers caught carrying Rs 4 crore in cash; Arrest of three

Three people, including a BJP worker, who were carrying around Rs 4 crore during the Lok Sabha elections, were arrested at Tambaram railway station in Chennai on Saturday. Chengaltu DEO said that Rs 4 crore was seized and sent to the Income Tax Department for further investigation.

BJP member and private hotel manager Satish, his brother Naveen, and a driver Perumal were arrested. A total of Rs 4 crore was seized in six bags. The three were also on their way to Tirunelveli by train when the Flying Squad apprehended them.

According to sources, the BJP worker Satish is said to have confessed that he was transporting the money on the instructions of Tirunelveli BJP MP Nainar Nagentiran’s team. Further investigation is being done in this regard.

“Flying squad seized Rs 4 crore from Chennai’s Tambaram railway station on Saturday. It has been sent to the Income Tax Department for further investigation. “The Income Tax department will investigate as the seized amount is more than Rs 10 lakh,” said Chengaltu DEO.

“All information related to this operation has been sent to the Income Tax Department. After this, the Income Tax Department will conduct a detailed investigation into the matter,” said the DEO.

Tamil Nadu, which has 39 Lok Sabha seats, will go to polls in a single phase on April 19. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
