FIR Filed Against BJP Candidate Madhavi for asking Muslim women to show their faces and vote

Police have reportedly registered an FIR after a video of controversial leader Kompella Madhavi Lata, the BJP candidate from Hyderabad, forcing burqa-clad Muslim women at the polls to show their faces to match the photos on their voter ID cards went viral on social media.

Madhavi Lata is one of the candidates who became infamous for her highly religious hate speech in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections going on in the country today. She is contesting against four-time MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad.

District Returning Officer Ronald Ross said that the police will file an FIR against Madhavi Lata under Section 171C, 186,505(1) of the IPC and the Representation of the People Act as no candidate has the right to lift anyone’s veil to verify her identity.

“If the candidates have any doubt about the voter, they can request the Returning Officer to verify the identity of the voter. They cannot do this by themselves. So, an FIR has been registered against Madhavi Lata, who has acted as she pleases,” he said.
