Hyderabad: BJP MLA booked for leaking video of rape victim

The Dubbak MLA, hailing from the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Mr.Raghunandan Rao, was booked by the Police for allegedly revealing the identity of a survivor in a minor’s gang rape case. The case was booked under Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which says that whoever prints or publishes the name or any matter which may make known the identity of any victim of sexual assault shall be punished with imprisonment up to two years.

He had shown a video and a picture of a woman in an intimate position with a person, alleging that three other persons including the son of an AIMIM MLA is seen in the video was present in one of the cars with the rape victim, reported The Siasat Daily.

The BJP legislator at a press conference two days ago, showed images from a video which he alleged was “proof” that the son of AIMIM MLA was involved in the case.

Hyderabad local news reported, soon after the video clip was released, it went viral on social media platforms and the act of the BJP MLA drew a lot of criticism from various quarters and a case was booked against the BJP MLA by the Abids Police.

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in a car by five persons at Jubilee Hills ten days ago when she had gone to attend a party at a pub. The suspects had reportedly lured the girl by offering to drop her home in the car. Four persons have so far been arrested in the case, reported The Siasat Daily.
