Ajay Mishra is a criminal’: Rahul Gandhi demands Union Minister’s resignation over Lakhimpur Kheri violence

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra in parliament and demanded the sacking of the minister in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Calling Mishra a ‘criminal’, Gandhi demanded his removal from the council of union ministers. “This minister should be removed from the government. He is a criminal,” he said adding that Mishra was “involved” in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

While the Congres MP continued demanded the removal of Mishra, members of Bhartiya Janata Party stood up and raised slogans in Lok Sabha. And as the sloganeering kept continuing the Speaker adjourned the proceedings.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attacked PM Narendra Modi for not sacking Ajay Mishra, “The government’s refusal to sack Ajay Mishra Teni is the starkest indication of its moral bankruptcy,” she tweeted.

“@narendramodi ji, carefully curated spectacles of piety and wearing religious attire will not change the fact that you are protecting a criminal…Ajay Mishra Teni should be sacked and charged in accordance with the law,” the Congress general secretary said on Twitter.

In October this year, eight people, including four farmers, were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested 13 people including the Union minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra in the first FIR in connection with the death of four farmers and a journalist. The SIT had arrested four people in the second FIR relating to the death of two BJP workers and a driver during the violence.
