CBI sends summons to Akhilesh Yadav in UP illegal mining case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav as witness on Thursday 29 February, in Uttar Pradesh related to the illegal mining case.

The case is related to the issuance of mining leases in a violation of e-tendering process. The probe has been ordered by Allahabad High Court .The notice has been issued by the CBI under Section 160 of CrPC. It has asked Akhilesh Yadav to appear before the federal agency on Thursday in order for the questioning session in Delhi.

It has been alleged that the public servants had allowed illegal mining during the time period of 2012-16, when Akhilesh Yadav was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. It had also alleged that there was a illegal renewal of licences despite a ban put by the National Green Tribunal on mining. It is alleged that the officers, who were involved also allowed theft of minerals and that they extorted money from lease-holders and drivers.
