Uttar Pradesh: Dalit youth killed for drinking tap water

A Dalit youth was brutally assaulted and killed for drinking water from a public tap in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.

The deceased has been identified as Kamlesh. The incident took place on Monday night in Satra village under Usahat police station in Badaun district.

On November 23, Suraj Rathore and his accomplices beat Kamlesh with hammers for drinking water from the tap. Kamlesh was seriously injured and admitted to the hospital. Additional Superintendent of Police Amit Kishore Srivastava said that he died on November 24 without treatment.

According to the complaint filed by the father of the deceased, Jagdish, the accused Suraj Rathore was arrested and an FIR was registered against him. The police said that an investigation is underway into the incident.

Atrocities against Dalits on the rise

A few days ago, a group of youths assaulted a class 12 student in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and urinated on his face. The police have arrested three people in connection with the case and have questioned them.

At the beginning of November, an inhumane incident took place in the NTR district of Andhra Pradesh where a Dalit youth was attacked and urinated on himself.

Officials informed that the youth was beaten by 6 accused for 4 hours and when he asked for water, they urinated on his body.
