We will not contest ZP polls in UP, say BSP chief Mayawati

Lucknow: In a surprising move, the Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to stay out of the Zilla Panchayat polls to be held in UP this year.

Announcing the decision, the Former Chief Minister and the party chief, Mayawati said that the party has decided not to contest in the coming panchayat polls.

Making it clear that not contesting Zilla Panchayat election does not mean that the party has become politically inactive, Mayawati asserted that the party is busy preparing for the coming assembly polls intensely.

She said that she has sent the message to her party cadre that they should be spending more time and energy preparing for the Assembly polls than local elections.

Predicting the victory of her party in the polls and forming the government, she said that when her party will come to power, the ZP presidents will voluntarily join the BSP.

On the speculations that her party would be joining hands with AIMIM for assembly polls, she rubbished the reports. “Our party will go alone in the polls”, she asserted.

It may be noted that ZP elections are scheduled to be held on July 3. The main fight is now between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party.
